VOIP MESSENGER · VOICE AND MESSAGING

Make your microphone work for you.

Use voice settings to control when your microphone sends sound. You can test your microphone locally before joining a voice channel.

Test and choose a threshold

  1. Open Settings and select the microphone you want to use.
  2. Choose Test microphone. The level meter measures locally without transmitting audio to other people.
  3. Speak normally and adjust Microphone threshold. A lower threshold is more sensitive; a higher threshold requires louder sound before the microphone opens.
  4. Check the meter while you are quiet, then while speaking. Aim for a threshold above background noise but below your normal speaking level.
  5. Choose Save settings. The threshold applies immediately. Microphone and noise-filter changes apply when you reconnect or restart the test.

Mute and keyboard shortcuts

The microphone button toggles your microphone. Muting sound also silences your microphone while sound is muted. Turning sound back on respects your microphone mute setting.

In Settings, choose one shortcut per action, such as F8 for microphone and F9 for sound. Mouse 4 and Mouse 5 are supported too. On Windows these shortcuts work in the background; in the browser they require the active tab.

To mute only one person’s received voice, right-click their name and choose Mute. This only changes what you hear and does not mute the person for anyone else.

If you cannot hear or be heard

Check microphone permission in your browser or Windows, choose the correct input, and make sure microphone and sound are unmuted. Try a lower threshold if normal speech does not open the microphone.

If voice does not reconnect after a network change, leave and rejoin the voice channel. A headset can help with feedback and echo. Device, browser and network conditions all affect the result.
